Introduction to Glass Bead Making with Tracy Brown


Basic techniques are demonstrated and then practised as you learn to make a glass bead and decorate it. Demonstrations are run throughout
the class with emphasis on correct technques while having fun. Safety issues and an introduction to glass properties and the glass used are also covered.

Precious Metal Clay and Polymer Clay
with Melanie Dilday

Day 1: Fine Silver Earrings and Shell Charms - come discover the wonderful and revolutionary new method of working in silver using precious metal clay.
Rolling, texturing and cutting sheets of PMC, how to add layers using PMC paste, creating and adding embellishments. Sanding and finishing is also covered as well as firing using a butane torch. You will also learn about adding patina and polishing using both a hand and rotary tumbler. Plus how to use moulds and add holes for jump rings.

Day 2: Chameleon Clay Workshop Using Polymer Clay
Where old meets new, drawing upon the ancient Japanese tradition of Mokume gane.How to mimic the look of Japanese lacquer, synthesizing aspects of the ancient mokume gane techniques to create rich time worn effects. Very thin layers of coloured clay are embossed, then sanded or sliced away allowing each colour to shadow over another.
The mica shift "ghosting technique" using mettalic clays and their mica shift abilities giving depth and illumination to the designs are also a part of this lesson. This technique is similar to mokume gane but there are no layers. Conditioning, rollng, impressing, stacking, slicing and forming pendants and beads will also be covered as well as baking and finishing.
